The oldest town on Cape Cod, and still one of its most beautiful. Sandwich offers historic charm, stunning natural landscapes, and a pace of life that reminds you why you moved to the Cape.
About Sandwich
Founded in 1637, Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod and one of the most historically significant in Massachusetts. Its town center — with Shawme Pond, the Dexter Grist Mill, and the First Church of Christ — looks much as it did two centuries ago. Yet Sandwich is far from frozen in time. Heritage Museums & Gardens, the Cape Cod Canal, and miles of Cape Cod Bay beaches make it one of the most complete communities on the Cape. For buyers who want history, nature, and genuine Cape Cod character, Sandwich delivers.
Sandwich offers a diverse real estate market anchored by historic homes in the village center, classic Cape Cod cottages near the bay beaches, newer construction in Forestdale, and waterfront properties along Cape Cod Bay. The town consistently offers better value than neighboring Falmouth while maintaining exceptional quality of life.
Sandwich is located at the northern gateway to Cape Cod, adjacent to the Sagamore Bridge. Boston is approximately 60 miles away (about 1 to 1.5 hours depending on traffic). Route 6 provides direct access across the Cape. The town's position near the bridge makes it one of the most convenient Cape Cod towns for regular mainland commuters.
Sandwich Public Schools include Forestdale School, Oak Ridge School, Sandwich Elementary School, Sandwich Middle School, and Sandwich High School. The district is consistently rated among the top in Barnstable County. Cape Cod Regional Technical School also serves Sandwich students.
